But don’t take our word for it – Pinterest’s annual list of the year’s most searched for trends confirms exactly what was hot or not, identifying the key styles that saw a stratospheric rise in popularity over the 12 months. Dior’s new creative director, Maria Grazia Chiurri, put the beret back on the map this year, with leather designs the cool-girl’s accessory of choice. Forget baker boys and fedoras – this French stalwart is officially the Pinterest favourite.

Skinny jeans will always have a place, but the fashion industry had other ideas in 2017, crowning the wide leg the shape of the year. Pinterest browsers could expect to find inspo from a wealth of influencers teaming theirs with chunky knits and slouchy boots.

Delicate jewellery may continue to be an everyday hero, but for an injection of glamour it was the statement earring that reigned supreme last year. Seems everyone was after a bit of inspo – search results were up by nearly 1000% on 2016.
