Start With A Curl
For a perfect flutter, start by curling your lashes with an eyelash curler. As Make-Up Artist Jessica Kell explains, “False lashes have a real curl to them so you want to make sure your natural lashes don’t stick out straight underneath. Using a pair of eyelash curlers before you get going will give a lift to your natural lashes for a flawless finish.”
“If you’re having trouble getting your lashes in the right position, then make sure you are looking down into a mirror rather than straight ahead. By doing this, you’ll be able to see the lash line far more clearly, which makes it easier for the strip to settle into place,” Jessica explains.
Mind The Gap
To keep your flutter looking as natural as possible, ensure there’s no gap between where your natural lashes start and the strip. “Really wiggle the strip into place and then coat the join with gel eyeliner so there’s no lid showing through. Also make sure they’re trimmed to size – you want them to fit perfectly to avoid overlap,” Jessica says.
Let It Set
To ensure your lashes see you through the night, make sure you apply enough glue (try MAC’s Duo Adhesive, a true beauty bestseller) and really let it set in place – the key is to let it go tacky before applying the lashes; this should take around 30 seconds. Make like the pros and apply the glue to the back of your hand, then drag the strip through it in order to get an even coverage of glue across the lash.
Try This Mascara Hack
Wondering whether you still need to use mascara? If you feel your falsies are enough on their own then feel free to forego mascara, but if you’re struggling to make your natural and fake lashes blend together, a light layer of lengthening mascara before application can work wonders.
