Promising a holiday that would stun even the most seasoned traveller, Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains are a dream destination for those searching for a little more than golden sands.
If you want to venture further than bustling Marrakech, an escape to the secluded Atlas Mountains will include everything from breath-taking hikes and traditional cuisine to days spent basking by the pool and enjoying the peace of the idyllic surroundings. Here’s how to enjoy the quieter side of Morocco…
Where to stay… With breath-taking views of the High Atlas Mountains stretching as far as the eye can see, the luxurious Kasbah Tamadot – one of the properties from the exclusive Virgin Limited Edition collection – ticks every box on the travel wish list. A secluded Moroccan retreat with opulent suites surrounded by exotic landscaped gardens? We think we could manage that.
There are 18 bedrooms and suites in total, each boasting traditional Moroccan furnishings and original antiques, as well as ten luxury Berber Tents, some of which have private Jacuzzis to bask in beneath the stars – for a getaway with a difference, it doesn’t get much better. This heavenly hideaway promises true rest and relaxation: take a stroll through the peaceful courtyards or cool down from the scorching summer heat in the dreamy infinity pool.
How to get there… Just a short 45 minutes’ drive south east from Marrakech Airport, Kasbah Tamadot is ideally located if you do fancy a day out shopping in the souks. There are plenty of direct flights from the UK, which usually take around four hours, and transfers by car, taxi or helicopter can be arranged directly with Kasbah Tamadot, to collect you directly from the airport.
When to go… Although the weather is good year-round, July/August is a beautiful time to visit Morocco. Temperatures can rise to a high of 37 degrees Celsius, but on average tend to stay around the 30 degrees mark – perfect for lazy strolls to the pool. The air is much fresher here too – it’s usually around 10 degrees cooler than its neighbouring city of Marrakech – so makes a blissful retreat from the touristy chaos.
Tempted? Kasbah Tamadot is currently running an exclusive offer for summer sun seekers. Book for at least three nights during 1st June and 31st August, you’ll get another night FREE. What’s more, if you book as a family, kids go entirely FREE.
Superior rooms from MAD 5,230 (around £420) per night
